As we have studied the biblical qualifications for the ministry we have seen many internal and external requirements.
The Man of God must:
be above reproach (1 Tim. 3:2)
be sober-minded (1 Tim. 3:2)
have marriage fidelity (1 Tim. 3:2)
self-controlled (1 Tim. 3:2)
respectable (1 Tim. 3:2)
hospitable (1 Tim. 3:2)
able to teach (1 Tim. 3:2)
not a drunkard (1 Tim. 3:3)
not violent (1 Tim. 3:3)
be gentle (1 Tim. 3:3)
not quarrelsome (1 Tim. 3:3)
not a lover of money (1 Tim. 3:3)
manage his household and children with dignity (1 Tim. 3:4)
not a recent convert (1 Tim. 3:6)
well thought of by outsiders (1 Tim. 3:7)
The Church Confirmation
“In the New Testament there are no rogue agents or self-appointed ministers. Every legitimate pastor has a church standing behind him. Church affirmation is essential to the call to ministry.” – Jason Allen
1 Timothy 4:14 Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you.
1 Timothy 3:10 And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless.
