Have you ever been invited somewhere of importance, or to meet someone of great stature? Meeting a celebrity or a person of power can be intimidating. If you are anything like me, you get nervous or anxious. I usually can’t speak clearly. I don’t know what it is, but being near someone of great distinction makes me feel a little more self-aware.

The Lord spoke to Moses from Mount Sinai, “Come up to me into the mount, and be there” (Ex. 24:1,12) Has there been a greater invitation extended than this? The Creator of heaven and earth invited Moses to come up into the mountain and speak face to face. Granted, God had spoken to Moses many times previously. This time was different. Moses seen the Lord! And what a sight he beheld! Moses spent the next forty days and nights in the presence of Almighty God.

Moses went up into the mountain, and God came down. Here in a cloud of glory, Moses received the commandments written on tables of stone. More importantly, Moses received the plans for the Tabernacle and the priesthood. God was preparing to come near His people. Preparations had to be made for God to dwell amongst His people.

For Moses and Israel the Law was written on tablets of stone, and sacrifices would be given in order to cleanse the people. The writer of Hebrews stated that these were just a shadow of things to come. Brothers and sisters, God came even nearer to us that believe. Moses prepared the Tabernacle for God to come into Israel’s camp. In Jesus Christ, God prepared a body, so that God could dwell among us (Jn. 1:14). The Law of God wouldn’t be written on tablets of stone, but written on our hearts and minds. Now God, was going to dwell in the hearts of His people through the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ opened the veil and has invited us to come into His presence. The writer of Hebrew concluded, “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith” (Heb. 10:22). Leave your sins behind and draw near to Him. Leave your anxiety behind and draw near to Him. Leave your worries behind and draw near to Him. Leave your fear behind and draw near to Him. Leave your past behind and draw near to Him.
