There is no doubt that the Christian church is under attack. The Christian worldview is ridiculed daily. Recently, one news anchor said we are to trust in ourselves rather than trust in God. Another television show host claimed that Jesus wasn’t perfect. Christians are commonly called intolerant, and bigoted due to our exclusive belief in Jesus Christ is God, and that His Word is the true standard of morality and righteous living.

The psalmist wrote, “Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; He fighting daily oppresseth me. Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: For they be many that fight against me, O thou most High” (Psalm 56:1–2). The Hebrew word for “swallow” means to “trample,” “pester,” “to cause to suffer.” David’s enemies longed to crush and defeat him. But if they couldn’t do that then they would try to oppress or torment him.

The Christian church in North America may not be at that point just yet. But we have brothers and sisters around the world who are daily tormented, oppressed, and even killed. But as North America grows darker with sin, we may relate even more to our oppressed brothers and sisters in Christ.

“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his Word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me” (Ps. 56:3-4). Truly fear grips our hearts as we see tribulation approaching. But we should put our trust in God. We shouldn’t fear man, but we should have a holy fear of God. Jesus said, “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matt. 10:28).

Beloved, as we see the end of time advance don’t lose hope or allow fear to grip your heart. Instead place your trust in Jesus.
